Measuring from the pole to the bottom of the string to about 5/64. Bridge pickup should be 3/64 (i think the 3/64 is a typo, it should be 3/32) , neck pickup should be 4/32.

In The 1950S Gibson Recommended A Distance Of 1/16 (1.6 Mm) For Their Pafs In Both Neck And Bridge Position, And For Both The Bass And The Treble Sides Of The Pickup.

Measuring between the top of the pickups and the bottom of the strings, with the strings depressed at the last fret, the best advice is to start with a gap of 1/16 inch between bridge pickup and strings and 3/32 inch between neck pickup and strings, and this makes a good general base from which to launch your own experiments. Fret low e at 22nd fret and measure pickup height from underside of string to point on pickup closest to string. Bridge pickup should be 3/64 (i think the 3/64 is a typo, it should be 3/32) , neck pickup should be 4/32.

The Correct Pickup Height Orientation Is Lower On The Bass Side And Closer On The Treble Side.

Measurement for low and high e's should be the same as measurement taken at the 15th. High e at 3mm low e at 4mm this is of course measured with the strings pressed at the 22nd fret and measured from the bottom of the string to the top of the magnets. On these pickups, as well as those of most les paul, tele, and strat style guitars, to raise the height of the pickup, you tighten the screw, i.e., turn it clockwise.

Do The Same On The Treble Side Under The High E String.

Gibson custom/historic les paul district. Make sure you don't make it too high. Your bass strings have more mass and will disturb the magnetic field more than treble strings.
